Race for Life returns to Leigh

Leigh women are being urged to enter Cancer Research UK's Race for Life in Leigh.

This year's event takes place on Sunday, May 16 at Pennington Flash Country Park as in previous years.

Last year 2,788 Leigh women took part in the event which took place on two days and smashed the fund-raising target by raising an incredible £146,363.

In 2010, organisers are encouraging 1,600 women to put their best feet forward with the aim of raising £82,464.

And the charity is asking local women to recruit their friends, family and colleagues now that entry to the Leigh event, which will start at 11am, is officially open.

The 5k Race for Life is the UK's largest women-only fund-raising event series where all the money raised goes to fund Cancer Research UK's life-saving work.

All women are welcome, regardless of whether they are taking part on their own or as part of a group.

Leigh participants help make up a total of 700,000 women taking part in more than 230 events across the UK between May and July. Cancer Research UK hopes that together they will raise a total of £60million to fund the charity's life-saving work.
