A popular community centre is celebrating after receiving a £1,000 donation from a national housebuilder.
Newton le Willows Family and Community Association has received the grant from Persimmon Homes North West as part of its Community Champions scheme. The money will be used to support the refurbishment of the association’s outside space, along with the much needed work they do to provide educational and leisure courses for residents.
Lisa Hulme, from the Centre said: “Our community centre has been running since 1987 and is run by a management committee of local volunteers, residents and partner organisations. We provide a wide variety of educational, leisure and community courses for residents.
“We are absolutely delighted to have been named a Community Champions, and the funds will help us renovate and external area for our out of school club and summer playgroup. The area is in desperate need of renovation and needs levelling, new turf and decking.
“We have already worked hard to raise our own funds through our community café, street collections and supermarket bag packing, but this latest cash injection has proved a much welcome boost to enable us to finally start the work.”
Dave Hodgson, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes North West said: “I’m really pleased that we have been able to support such a worthwhile and well-used centre. The renovation of the space will be of direct benefit to the community to continue providing services to local residents for many years to come.”
Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme is open to all charities and groups to support the fundraising they have already worked hard to do themselves, with two lots of £1,000 up for grabs every month.
